I have read several posts where members cleaned and applied rtv, paint sealer, aluminum tape etc...

The rear output shaft seal is leaking. The seal probably just dried out form old age. This is something you can change in your driveway, easy peasy. It doesn't just slide off. The slinger is pressed onto the shaft. I used a 2 jaw puller to get mine off. I have a leak in the transfer case of my 4×4. The transfer case uses 75w-90 gear oil. The leak appears to be coming from the gasket between the transfer case halves (the case is splittable when disassembled). I believe the gasket is paper, not rubber. The case is NOT leaking from the rubber input or output shaft seals.There is a gasket between the tranny extension and the transfer case, but a leak there would be from a shaft seal either on the tranny output shaft or t-case input shaft. The area between them is normally dry.
