After handling just about everything they have, I was stuck between the Ruger American in .308 and the Savage 110 in .270. The Ruger came with a Nikon Prostaff for $429.99 and the Savage had a gorgeous Vortex Cross fire, $299.99 total. Id prefer the .308 for the availability/price, but I loved that Vortex, and of course the price of the Savage.When you buy a bolt action rifle, what you're ultimately buying is the action. The Hawk eye is made to the traditional standards of a mid to higher grade hunting rifle: fit, finish, material, etc. If you are just trying to put meat on the table, or use the rifle exclusively as a tool, the American is the way to go.
