Narrow reduces rolling ressitance and puts more pounds per sqaure inch on tire tread on snow and ice and will dig to the bottom for traction in mud like stated above.12.5" wide tires are too wide for stock wheels. Stock wheels are only 7.5". You'll find the max recommended rim width on tire manufacturer websites. You should be able to find some 34s that fit stock wheels. Stock 20s come on 8" wheels. The general recommendation is to not run a tire that is greater than 4" of the wheel.
